Commuters in the fast-growing City of Whittlesea are set to benefit from a bigger and safer railway station, with planned upgrades on the way for Donnybrook station.
The plans will see an overhaul of some key facilities at Donnybrook, designed to improve accessibility, comfort and safety for passengers.
Whittlesea Council and Rail Projects Victoria will seek permission from Planning Minister Richard Wynne to purchase a parcel of land located at 805 Donnybrook Road, in order to make way for 250 new car spaces.
Pedestrian access will be improved around the precinct, there will be new passenger shelters and two additional bus bays. Springs Road will also be widened to improve access for buses.
As well as structural upgrades, there will also be a boost in security. CCTV and lighting will be installed on platforms and in the car park, offering peace of mind for all travellers.
This overhaul of platforms, parking facilities, drop off areas and bus bays will allow the station to run more efficiently and hopefully provide a better overall experience for customers travelling on the busy line.
The station upgrade is one of many improvements for the area, with Whittlesea council also working to extend the rail line to Wollert. This would greatly improve congestion in the wider area, and undoubtedly be a welcome improvement for Wollert locals, including those keen to call Riverhills home.
In the meantime, contractors will soon be appointed to begin work on the Donnybrook upgrade. The project is due for completion by 2020.
